2019 is the 50th year anniversary since the United States put man on the moon. I though this would be the perfect year to read and know more about a man who actually walked on the moon. No Dream Is Too High is a book that breaks down Buzz Aldrin’s event filled life into a short list of principles he values. In this blog post, I will list out the principles that are near and dear to Buzz’s heart. In the book, Buzz illustrated these principles by fascinating anecdotes and memoirs.
Here are Buzz’s guiding principles:
- The sky is not the limit. There are footprints on the moon.
- Keep your mind open to possibilities.
- Show me your friends, and I will show your your future.
- Second comes right after first.
- Write your own epitaph.
- Maintain your spirit of adventure.
- Failure is always an option.
- Practice respect for all people.
- Do what you believe is right, even when others chose otherwise.
- Trust your gut and your instruments.
- Laugh a lot.
- Keep a young mindset at every age.
- Help others go beyond where you have gone.
Buzz has a story/life lesson that goes along with each of these 13 guiding principles. In the book, Buzz discusses how when they got to the moon, they only had 10 seconds of fuel left and were unable to find a safe place to land. Buzz talks about how one of the plastic portion of the circuit breakers, which had to be turned on in order to go back to the Earth, broke and what they did to navigate that problem. The book takes you through the adventurous life that Buzz actually lived: taking down enemy planes during the Korean war, working at NASA, walking on the Moon, swimming with a Whale Shark, going to the bottom of the ocean and looking at the remains of the Titanic, dancing on the “Dance with the Stars” TV show at age 80, etc. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There were parts in the book that were simply hilarious. Just like any good biography/autobiography, this 5.75 hour audio book makes you feel inspired and gives courage to face any challenges that come your way.
